Discover travel tips for Bogota-Girardot highway during Easter Week

  • Easter is one of the busiest times of the year on the road.
  • The Concession will suspend the work fronts and enable as many lanes as possible.

VÍA SUMAPAZ, the Concession in charge of the Bogotá-Girardot highway, expects to receive more than 250 thousand vehicles during Easter vacations that will visit the Sumapaz region's tourist attractions and the country's western side.

With the modernization and expansion works currently being carried out along the road, the challenge for mobility will be even more significant. For this reason, VÍA SUMAPAZ will suspend construction activities from March 22, after 5 p.m., and will increase the number of assistance units (workshop cars, cranes, ambulances, machinery kits, etc.), have additional personnel at the collection points, and have about 150 members of the Transit and Transportation Department throughout the corridor.

With the pause in the works, the Concession will enable between three and six lanes in several road sectors to facilitate travelers' mobility. In the most technically complex sections, where only one lane is available, such as the El Muña viaduct, the entrance to the municipality of Granada, some sections between Silvania and Fusagasugá, including the Azafranal district and the area known as Alto de Canecas in Chinauta; the Police may implement alternating stop-and-go or "reversible" crossings to give priority to the direction of most traffic, during the busiest days.

Likewise, during the Return Plan on Monday, March 25, and Sunday, March 31, the Traffic and Transportation Department of Police may implement reversible routes, depending on the behavior of vehicles, which consist of enabling all vehicular flow in one direction only, from Fusagasugá to Bogotá, from 12:00 noon until midnight. As alternate routes for those traveling towards Bogotá-Girardot, there are the Sibaté-San Miguel-Fusagasugá or Mesitas del Colegio-Viotá-Girardot roads. It is also essential for travelers to consider the "pico y placa" measure to transit as follows: from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., even plates will be allowed, and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. even plates will be allowed and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. odd plates.

In addition to this critical operational mobilization, VIA SUMAPAZ shares some tips to help drivers prepare for a safe trip.

  2. Get plenty of rest before starting your trip and plan stops.
